A very nice GUI tool called "qsynth" can be used for this purpose. But for fluidsynth, you will need to start the daemon on the background, as you did for timidity. If you need to change the java you are using, you need to execute the above command as root.Īfter starting timidity, in Tools->Settings->Sound->Midi Port, you need to select one of the "Timidity Port"s to use timidity.Īlternatively, you can select "Gervill" to use Java Sound API, or select "Synth Input port" tu use fluidsynth. You need either openjdk or Sun's java for sound output. Sound output will not work if you use gcj. base.MidiPlayerException: Java sound api cannot be loadedĪt .()Īt .()Īt .TuxGuitar.restorePlayerConfig()Ĭaused by: : .alsa.AlsaMidiDeviceProviderįirst of all, which java are you using? Timidity has problems starting, but even when I get around these problems no sound when playing the midi ports appear in the sound configuration screen, however). I also tried to start timidity++ as "timidity -iAD" which is what I do in fc10. The best for professional use is probably Finale or Sibelius, but you have to buy the full $600 versions if you want true flexibility in tab and in time-signatures for those programs. What more can you ask for FREE? All the other tab programs out there have quirks and issues too. It can open Tabledit, Guitar Pro, and Power Tab files. I even got it set-up to do two 5 string tab-staffs tuned to each side of a Chapman Stick. It can do all varieties of tuplets and time signatures and alternate guitar tunings. It has a grid-style drum editor, a mixer, playback speed adjustment. It has full tab capacity, with a guitar-neck visualization and input ability. It is a little quirky in the way it enters notes.īiggest downside is that it is hard to get it to show all the music clearly on one screen. I'm a guitar teacher and have been using this with my students.
